Exercise for strengthening the orbital part of the orbicularis oculi muscle

VIDEO
LOAD ON MUSCLES

Zone: Eyes

Effectiveness. The exercise helps to strengthen the peripheral part of the orbicularis oculi muscle, also known as the "fixed" eyelid. By working this muscle, you can prevent and correct "hanging" or drooping (ptosis) of the eyelid.

Main Muscles. The exercise primarily engages the orbital part of the orbicularis oculi muscle. The orbital part, when strongly contracted, causes the eyes to squint.

Number of repetitions. The exercise is performed 20 times, with a static hold on the last count for a few seconds. After the exercise, blink your eyes intensively to relieve tension in the muscles.

The orbicularis oculi muscle is a complex and very important muscle consisting of three parts that together form the necessary protective mechanism surrounding the eye.

The orbital part originates from the medial ligament of the eyelid, the frontal process of the maxilla, and the nasal and frontal bones, and it follows along the upper and lower edges of the eye socket, forming a muscle ring.

Fix the orbicularis oculi muscle of one eye around the perimeter. To do this, place the fingers of one hand along the brow ridge and the fingers of the other hand along the cheekbone, without stretching the skin—press it firmly with your fingers. Next, squint the eye with effort, then open the eye. The other eye should remain open! The skin around the eye should not wrinkle. Perform the exercise at a calm pace.
