DESCRIPTION
Usually, the higher the angle of this machine, the heavier it becomes. It's better to position your feet closer to the upper edge of the platform. This reduces the likelihood of lifting your pelvis off the bench, which can injure your back. You can vary the width of your foot placement. Nuances and Mistakes 1. This exercise is excellent for those with back problems since there is no axial load on the spine and the back is not engaged. 2. The wider you position your feet and spread your knees outward, the more load will be placed on the inner thigh. Conversely, the closer your feet and knees are together, the more the quadriceps (the front of the thigh) will work. 3. The lower you lower the platform, the more the glutes will be engaged. However, do not overdo it. At the lowest point, your pelvis should not lift off the support. This can lead to low back injuries. 4. As an option, you can perform the press with one leg. In this case, your foot should be slightly off-center on the platform. This will place more load on the inner thigh. However, I do not recommend this variation for beginners. 5. You can also try not fully extending your legs. This will cause your muscles to fatigue more quickly. 6. The higher you place your feet on the platform, the more the glutes will be engaged. The lower you position them, the more the quadriceps will work. 7. Overall, this exercise is foundational. However, I do not recommend substituting it for squats with a barbell on your shoulders. This is only justified if, due to injuries, you are unable to squat. ANALOGUES
