Pull-ups on a low bar

VIDEO
FOR BEGINNERS
For men: 8 - 15 repetitions.
For women: 8 - 12 repetitions.
LOAD ON MUSCLES
DESCRIPTION

This exercise is particularly beneficial for those who cannot do pull-ups on a bar. It can also effectively replace bent-over barbell or dumbbell rows if you have back problems or simply find those exercises uncomfortable. In this variation of pull-ups, there is no axial load on the spine.

Nuances and mistakes

1. The higher the bar is, the easier it will be for you to pull yourself up. However, ideally, the height should be such that the distance from your back to the floor in the lowest position is minimized.

2. Pulling up with your knees bent makes it easier.

3. Like with bent-over barbell rows, you can pull up with a wide, medium, or underhand grip. Experiment to find which grip feels more comfortable for you.

4. At the bottom position, it’s desirable to lower your pelvis and slightly round your back to better stretch the latissimus dorsi. Conversely, at the top position, you should arch your back and push your chest forward. This will allow you to place more emphasis on the back rather than the arms.

5. You should pull up so that the bar touches your chest approximately at the level of your nipples.
