DESCRIPTION

Usually performed with a barbell on the shoulders or a stick. Push your hips back, the "non-working" leg should be straight at the knee. Do not lift your heels or toes off the ground. Bend forward at an angle of 45 to 60 degrees.

Nuances and mistakes

1. To perform lateral lunges, you need to have good mobility in the hip joints. When done correctly, this exercise works not only the inner thigh but also the glutes and the front thigh.

2. During the downward movement, push your hips back as if you are performing regular squats. The other leg should remain fully straight at the knee. Ideally, the foot should stay fully in contact with the floor, which requires good ankle mobility.

3. This exercise can be performed both without weight and with a barbell. However, it is essential to warm up well before doing it. This exercise is well-suited for the end of a leg workout.

4. The lower you go, the better. The width of your stance should allow you to comfortably go deep. The toes should be turned outward.

5. During the downward movement, the knee should align with the toe. Otherwise, you are likely lacking flexibility.
