Jumping onto the platformVIDEO
FOR BEGINNERS
For men: 6 - 10 repetitions. 3 sets. For women: 6 - 10 repetitions. 3 sets. LOAD ON MUSCLES
DESCRIPTION
This is the oldest weightlifting exercise. This exercise is aimed primarily not at building muscles, but at developing the speed-strength qualities of the leg and glute muscles. From a biomechanics perspective, it is similar to squats. However, the fact that you need to jump as high as possible and push off as powerfully as possible makes it an excellent exercise for explosive power. As you understand, any elevated surface can replace the buck. The main thing is that it is high enough and stable. It could be a bench, a wooden box, a stack of 25 kg plates, etc. It's just that in weightlifting gyms, people typically jump onto bucks. Nuances and Mistakes 1. As I mentioned earlier, the platform should be high. Ideally, it should be such that you can barely complete a maximum of 10-12 repetitions per set. In general, the higher, the better. Professional weightlifters jump onto platforms that are chest-height. 2. You can jump with a barbell on your shoulders. But this is advanced and such extremes are not for beginners. However, additional weight will help you further develop the speed and strength of your legs. 3. Personally, I recommend jumping out of a full or almost full squat. This way, you stretch your glutes and increase the range of motion. Here's how it works: squat down, then immediately push off like a spring and jump up. When you jump back down, immediately squat again without pausing and jump again. The idea is to do everything dynamically at the bottom with no pauses. 4. In the beginning, beginners often fear falling off the buck. In that case, choose a lower height. And remember, it's not only important to push off powerfully but also to pull your feet up as you ascend. 5. This exercise is great to include at the end of a leg workout. You can also do it at the beginning as a warm-up. However, if you intend to use this exercise not as a warm-up but as a means to increase explosive strength, it is better to do it at the end of your leg workout. 6. Another plus of this exercise is that if you experience knee pain, jumping can actually reduce or even completely eliminate this pain. In such cases, you should do jumps at the beginning or end of every workout. ANALOGUES
