How to get rid of early atherosclerosis: prevention of heart attack and stroke

Diseases are becoming increasingly common among younger people. Statistics show that over 17 million people die each year from cardiovascular diseases. A significant portion of all illnesses consists of heart attacks and strokes. And their cause is atherosclerosis.

What is Atherosclerosis?

Atherosclerosis is the accumulation of fats such as cholesterol and lipoproteins on the inner walls of blood vessels. Due to these growths (plaques), the lumen of the vessels narrows (impairing blood flow) and the vessels can become blocked (blood cannot pass through the plaques at all). For example, stroke is the blockage of vessels in the brain, which can result in speech issues, paralysis of an arm, impaired thinking, and more.

Causes of Atherosclerosis

There can be many causes for the development of cholesterol plaques on vessel walls. Doctors and scientists have not yet determined the precise causes. Only theories are being constructed. One of them is simple and understandable from Linus Pauling. This will be discussed below.

Many people believe that atherosclerosis is only present in overweight individuals and develops from high cholesterol intake, which is deposited on the blood vessels. But that is not true!

When autopsies were performed on the bodies of prisoners from Nazi concentration camps, it was found that these individuals were full of atherosclerotic plaques. How is that? After all, they were starving, thin, and didn't even see any fatty food! What is the cause? The cause lies in the lack of proper nutrition.

How to Combat Early Atherosclerosis

Early atherosclerosis is characterized by the fact that cholesterol plaques can dissolve, albeit slowly. But for this to happen, conditions must be created under which cholesterol stops depositing on the walls of blood vessels. These conditions are divided into:
- primary;
- additional.

Primary conditions:

1. Nutrition. A deficiency of protein leads to atherogenic growths. These growths occur as a result of vessel wear. Blood vessels need renewal (repair). If materials for their repair are insufficient, the body begins to create simple “patches” or something like clamps to prevent leaks in the vessels. And these “clamps” become cholesterol growths.

So, if there are not enough resources for the renewal of blood vessel walls, atherosclerosis will occur. Complete protein (meat, eggs, dairy products, fish, protein) provides the necessary elements (amino acids) for vessel wall renewal.

2. The amino acid lysine. It is, by the way, part of protein, so improving nutrition is a primary condition. Consuming pure lysine is a less important condition. Still, lysine can help. Here’s how.

When the wall of a vessel wears out, lysine threads begin to protrude from it. Cholesterol molecules have lysine receptors on them. When a cholesterol molecule passes through the blood and attaches to these threads with its receptors, it naturally gets stuck in that place. This is one of the reasons for the development of primary cholesterol plaques. But how can lysine help?

Lysine simply occupies the lysine receptors on cholesterol molecules, preventing these molecules from attaching to the protruding lysine threads in the blood vessel walls. But!

This affects the symptoms, not the cause. The cause is poor nutrition and, most likely, protein deficiency.

3. Vitamin C. This vitamin directly influences collagen production in the body. Blood vessel walls are made from collagen. Even if you consume enough protein (providing the necessary amino acids for collagen synthesis), without getting enough vitamin C, there is a high risk of developing atherosclerosis. That is, there are materials for collagen building (amino acids), but the conditions for building are not created (vitamin C).

Vitamin C may be lacking due to its rapid depletion in cases of:

- diseases, colds, and immune resistance to them;

- high physical loads;

- the influence of stress (any type—physical or psycho-emotional).

Therefore, additional intake of vitamin C is necessary. Ordinary ascorbic acid will do, but it’s better to pay attention to improved forms—ascorbates (of potassium, magnesium, calcium), ascorbyl palmitate, liposomal vitamin C, vitamin C from plants and their extracts (acerola, rose hips).

Additional conditions:

1. Omega-3. One of its properties is lowering "bad" cholesterol (LDL and VLDL) and increasing "good" cholesterol (HDL). It is LDL and VLDL that deposit on the walls (attach to lysine threads). Less "bad" cholesterol means less atherosclerosis.

2. Collagen. It provides the main nutrients for the body to synthesize its own collagen. But vitamin C is also needed.

3. Physical activity. In combination with a balanced diet, it leads to better and faster renewal of body structures, including blood vessels.
