Hello. A weightlifting belt is typically needed by those who lift heavy weights and have back problems. You can read more about it in the article Is a Weightlifting Belt Necessary?. This article will also discuss the different types of belts and which one is best for you to buy.

1. Classic Weightlifting Belt

Classic is classic. It suits everyone—both women and huge powerlifters. You should only buy a leather belt, as synthetic belts break quickly. A leather one is practically eternal. The main supplier of such belts is Pakistan. It will cost about 800 rubles.

At first, such a leather belt is quite stiff. But over time it becomes softer and fits better to the lower back. This cannot be said about synthetic belts, which are stiff at first and then just break across.

2. Wide Weightlifting Belt

These belts are wider in the working (lumbar) part than regular ones. Their width reaches up to 15 cm. I do not recommend buying such belts. The thing is that the human lower back has a slightly curved shape. Due to the large width, such a belt fits snugly at the edges of the lower back, while in the center, the tightness is much less. This creates only the illusion that your lower back is better protected.

3. Powerlifting Belt

It differs from others in that it has the same width throughout its length. Its use is justified only in powerlifting. The same width is necessary so that the athlete can "push" against it with his belly if his back rounds during squats or deadlifts. If you do not plan to engage in this sport, then you do not need it. Firstly, it is 2-3 times more expensive than regular belts. Secondly, it is much stiffer. In my opinion, I consider it useless, even in powerlifting.

4. Fabric Belt

This is a belt made not of leather or synthetic leather, but of dense fabric. Such a belt does not protect your lower back as reliably since fabric is always less rigid than leather. It is more suitable for women, as they lift lighter weights than men. Plus, it's prettier :)

Conclusion:

I believe that the classic weightlifting belt is the most universal. I have been using one for 14 years. Although I have tried all the other types as well. My belt is already 11 years old. I also have a powerlifting belt—it gathers dust in the closet. In general, it’s better to train your back. After all, a strong person does not need a belt, and a weak one will not benefit from it. Good luck!
