Plant Anabolics with Hypoglycemic Action

Any decrease in blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia), regardless of its origin, can trigger a sharp release of growth hormone (GH) into the bloodstream. There is a large group of plants that, unlike plant anabolic adaptogens, do not have such stimulating and tonic effects but can cause significant hypoglycemia and, as a consequence, a sharp increase in anabolism due to the stimulation of the somatotropic function of the pituitary gland. These plants include:

Soy (All Varieties)

Soy flour, depending on its use and dosage, can reduce blood sugar levels by 45%. It is used to make puddings, pancakes, baked goods, and is added to smoothies, etc. Soy isolate—a protein concentrate made from soy, containing 98% protein—is used as a base for the production of commercial "proteins" intended for athletes. The high protein concentration and significant reduction in blood sugar levels can collectively induce a strong anabolic effect. Hypoglycemic action is also present in soybean straw, which can be brewed and consumed like tea.

Common Bean

The hypoglycemic effect of this natural anabolic agent comes from the leaves, especially the pods, as well as the beans gathered at the milk ripeness stage. The reduction in blood sugar levels can reach 30%.

Field Pea

The pods and fruits of peas picked at the milk ripeness stage also exhibit a hypoglycemic effect. The sugar-reducing action of leguminous plants primarily depends on their arginine and guanidine content. It should be noted that mature peas, just like mature beans, do not have hypoglycemic properties. Additionally, mature fruits contain compounds that inhibit digestive enzymes and disrupt digestive processes. Therefore, only young fruits should be used.

Common Blueberry

This plant is also considered a natural anabolic agent. The leaves are collected, dried, and brewed like tea. The glucose levels decrease by 40% due to the glycoside neomyrtillin, and this effect lasts for over a day.

Chestnut Oak

Ripe acorns are dried and ground into powder. They are used at a dosage of 1 teaspoon three times a day before meals. This lowers blood glucose levels by 20%.

Thus, this group of natural plant anabolics exerts an indirect effect on increasing the level of anabolism. However, when used in combination with other medications, it can produce a fairly strong effect. Some plants such as alfalfa, steelweed, goldenrod, psoralea, Crimean ironweed, galega (goat's rue), stachys, and others are currently in experimental development for hypoglycemic purposes.
