This calculator will help you determine the upper and lower limits of the optimal pulse for fat burning.

Some may ask, “Why is there an upper limit? After all, the faster the pulse, the more fat is burned.” And they would be right in principle. However, the higher the pulse, the more quickly you will wear out and stop, never reaching the necessary duration of the workout. You need to work out for at least 40 minutes to activate the mechanism that destroys your fat.

In general, many factors influence the required pulse rate. But the main ones are:

1. The degree of wear of your cardiovascular system.

And this degree (at least approximately) can be determined by age. This means that the older you are, the faster your heart will beat when you reach the necessary training intensity, all else being equal, of course.

2. The level of conditioning of your cardiovascular system.

This can be determined by measuring your resting pulse. It is measured while lying down. Ideally, right after waking up. But you can just lie down and relax completely for about 5 minutes before measuring your pulse. This way, the value will be more accurate.

In other words, the lower your resting pulse, the more conditioned you are. The more conditioned you are, the slower your heart will beat during workouts. Therefore, more conditioned individuals often require a lower pulse rate for fat burning.

On average, a person's resting pulse is 60 – 70 beats per minute. Athletes engaged in endurance sports typically have a lower resting pulse, which can drop to 45 – 50 beats per minute.
