So, dear fitness enthusiasts and readers of the "Your Trainer" website, today we will talk about one category of sports nutrition – pre-workout complexes (pre-workouts).

What is a pre-workout complex? Usually, these are mixtures and concentrates of:
1. Vitamins.
2. Minerals.
3. Adaptogens.
4. Anabolic substances.
5. Recovery agents.
6. Psychostimulants.

It sounds impressive, but there's no need to be afraid, as long as you don't have serious cardiovascular diseases or allergic reactions. After all, sports nutrition manufacturers do not use banned substances in their products. All specialized nutrition undergoes sanitary control during production and certification procedures for sale in Russia.

There's no need to elaborate on vitamins and minerals; the groups and purposes of vitamin-mineral complexes are covered even in school.

What about the concepts of adaptogens, anabolic, recovery, and psychostimulant substances? Let’s start with adaptogens.

Adaptogens are a class of plant-based anabolic substances that, while having relatively mild anabolic effects, can enhance performance, exert a tonic influence on the body, stimulate the central nervous system, and increase endurance and resistance to harmful influences. Unlike synthetic ingredients, adaptogens have practically no toxicity, are well tolerated, and have few contraindications. Examples include eleutherococcus, extracts of rhodiola, Chinese lemongrass (schisandra!), leuzea, and so on.

You can also take note of a supplement like Beta-Alanine, which reduces muscle soreness after training and accelerates recovery from injuries. Beta-Alanine is known for causing tingling sensations throughout the body and in the fingertips, palms, and even the ears.

Pre-workout mixtures often contain anabolic and recovery substances. In short, anabolism refers to growth. It is needed by an athlete, which is why you can find individual amino acids as well as groups, for example BCAAs, in pre-workout complexes. Creatine, which is widely known, also falls into this category.

Psychostimulant substances should be familiar to most. Have you ever had coffee? Or products like Burn, Bullet, Adrenalin? Sports nutrition has not missed out on these stimulants. For stimulating the CNS, reducing fatigue thresholds, and enhancing motivation, caffeine and its derivatives are used, along with amino acids like arginine and taurine. By the way, I forgot to mention that many complexes also include nootropics. For instance, DMAE and Ginkgo biloba for improving brain circulation, drive, concentration, and memory.

Types of Pre-Workout Complexes

The use of pre-workout complexes in the gym is generally driven by two main purposes:

- Energy and drive;
- Muscle pumping and recovery.

In accordance with these goals, pre-workout complexes can be divided into two groups.

The first group would include supplements like Optimum Nutrition Platinum PRE, SAN Launch, and the bodybuilding super hit USPLabs Jack 3D, although it can also be classified in the second group, as it gives phenomenal pumping effects.

The second group is often referred to as nitrogen donors, since they contain nitric oxide – arginine.

Such complexes usually include "N.O." in their name. They are BSN N.O.-XPlode 2.0, ABB Performance Speed Stack Pumped N.O, Muscle Pharm Hybrid N.O., and so on.

It's worth noting that our division of pre-workout complexes into groups does not imply that those classified in the second group won't provide a charge for workouts and energy after them. Often, such pre-workouts also contain psychoactive substances in the form of caffeine and green tea. An example of a mixed pre-workout is the pre-workout from Dobromil Fit.

One thing is clear: sports supplements, just like all food products, need to be tried, with dosages, flavors, and routines personalized to the individual characteristics of your body, perception, and training regimen. It is advisable to consult with a qualified physician or trainer and not lose the sense of moderation. Good luck!
