6 misconceptions about protein
Author: Timko Ilya - master of the whole project and fitness trainer. All articles by the author ➤
1. Protein should only be taken on training days Some people think this, justifying it by saying that on non-training days, the body does not need increased doses of protein. Meanwhile, muscle recovery after a workout can take a week or even longer. And during all this time, they need amino acids (the building blocks of proteins) to restore their structure and growth. 2. It is impossible to build muscle without protein In essence, protein is only necessary if your body is experiencing a protein deficiency. With intense strength training and poor nutrition, it is nearly impossible to supply your body with adequate amounts of protein. On the other hand, with proper and complete nutrition that includes quality food, there may be no need to take protein. So, while you can build muscle without protein, in most cases, it's easier to do so with it. 3. Protein damages the liver Any high-protein food puts a strain on your liver. The more protein you consume daily, the greater the load on the liver. Protein powders impose no more strain on your liver than the proteins you obtain from food. However, without protein, your body cannot function properly. Therefore, proteins do not damage the liver; however, since they are protein, they do put additional stress on it. 4. Proteins are expensive At first glance, this may seem true. 1 kg of quality protein costs about 1000 rubles. And in that kilogram of protein, there is approximately the same amount as in 4 kg of meat. How much does 4 kg of meat cost? About the same 1000 rubles. If we take, for example, cottage cheese, it will yield a similar picture. 5. Protein is "artificial" food In reality, protein is produced from products such as soy and milk, and less frequently from eggs and meat. Through various thermal and chemical reactions, protein is extracted from these products, resulting in a concentrated powder. In this regard, it is much more natural than, say, instant mashed potatoes. 6. Protein is only needed by professional athletes This is equivalent to saying that protein is only needed by professional athletes. As you can understand, everyone needs protein. In fact, even those who do not train sometimes take protein because they have a tight work schedule and often don’t have time to eat properly. Finally, I would like to offer you a small selection of proteins that (in my opinion) have a good price-to-quality ratio:
