How to choose a good gainer: 5 signs

This article will discuss what to pay attention to when buying a gainer. This question has partially been addressed in the article How to take a gainer. However, I continue to be bombarded with questions like: “Which gainer is better for me to buy? This one or that one?” In fact, by studying the composition of any gainer, you can confidently say whether it is good or not, provided that the manufacturers are not lying. Now we will break down the signs of a good gainer point by point. But first, I would like to make a small clarification. Never compare gainers by serving sizes, as serving sizes can range from 30 grams to 400 grams. In that case, you’d have to be a total idiot to claim that a certain gainer is better just because it has more protein and carbohydrates per serving. Unfortunately, about 80% of people think this way, and I encounter such ignorance almost every day. Therefore, compare gainers ONLY by the percentage content of substances, meaning per 100 grams. Often manufacturers are tricky and present the composition relative to one serving. Don’t fall for this! Even knowing the composition only for one serving, you can easily calculate the percentage content of the substances. Now, let's look at 5 signs. Protein content This is the first thing to pay attention to. Ideally, the protein content in a gainer should be 30% - 35%. In short, the higher, the better. 20% - 25% protein is considered quite normal. If the protein is less than 20%, I wouldn't recommend getting it, as there is a risk of gaining more fat than muscle. In general, remember: the more protein, the better! It should also be noted that if a gainer has low protein content, it does not necessarily mean it is of low quality. Sometimes manufacturers do this intentionally to reduce the cost of the product. Sugar content The sugar content directly indicates the quality of the gainer. Ideally, there should be none at all. However, there are instances where sugar content is 35% - 40%. You can imagine that if you buy such a gainer weighing 2.5 kg, it will contain 1 kg of sugar! There are cases where manufacturers do not indicate whether there is sugar. You can determine this using the following method: with gainers that have a lot of sugar, you will experience significant bloating. Moreover, the more sugar there is, the more you will fart. If there is no sugar, you shouldn’t experience bloating. Type of protein Typically, good gainers contain either whey protein or a multi-component protein (whey, egg, casein, etc.). If there is soy protein in the gainer, it doesn't automatically mean the protein is bad, but it should raise some concerns. Manufacturer
Generally, all companies produce gainers of approximately the same quality if we look at the USA and Europe. Therefore, I cannot say that some companies are bad and others are good. Some manufacturers offer the same quality for slightly lower prices. They produce good products and sell them relatively cheaply: These are my favorite brands. I buy not only gainers from them but also other products. Again, this doesn’t mean that other brands are bad. Price If a gainer (no matter how good it is) costs more than 1500 rubles per 1 kg, don’t buy it. You will clearly overpay. There are companies (like Weider and Muscletech) whose product prices are unjustifiably high. A good price for high-quality gainers is approximately 1000 rubles per 1 kg (this heavily depends on the package size). Gainors with low protein and high sugar content may cost 600 - 700 rubles per 1 kg. But don’t fall for that. So when buying a gainer, always calculate its price per weight to find out how much 1 kg costs. Conclusions Always calculate the composition of the gainer in percentage ratio. Don’t overload your mind with serving sizes since they vary greatly. Calculate how much 1 kg of the product costs. Choose based on: less sugar and more protein. And don’t overpay for popular brands. Now, I think you will be well-informed on this topic and won't let manufacturers and sellers deceive you. I also recommend using the price/quality calculator for sports nutrition. You will learn all the truths about any product in general and gainers in particular.
